This U.S. Olympic Trials look like the end for some long-established stars: Oregon track & field rundown

EUGENE -- The U.S. Olympic Trials for Track & Field opened yesterday at Hayward Field, and it was hard not to feel that it was the end of an era.

Nick Symmonds, Trials winner in the men's 800 in 2008 and 2012, was tweeting about drinking beer and watching from the seats. He is out with an ankle injury.

Olympian Duane Solomon competed in the 800 prelims, but failed to qualify.

Sanya Richards-Ross, one of the best 400 runners of her generation, already had announced this would be the end, and the end came in her qualifying heat.
