Detroit Tigers outfielder Matt Vierling returned from the injured list Monday and started in center field for the fifth time this season in the series opener against the Atlanta Braves at Comerica Park.
"I'm excited," Vierling said.
The return of Vierling, a right-handed hitter, comes just two days after outfielder Akil Baddoo needed to be placed on the injured list with a right quadriceps strain. It also comes four days after fellow outfielder Kerry Carpenter returned from the injured list. Fellow outfielder Riley Greene is still on the injured list.
